Professional experience

Dr. Andrea Barragan holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Universidad Santo Tomás De Aquino in Bogotá, Colombia (1999), a master’s degree in Human Resources Development and Administration from Barry University in Florida (2004), as well as both master’s (2010) and doctoral (2017) degrees in clinical psychology from Albizu University in Florida. She has worked with child welfare organizations and non-profits, delivering direct services, administrative support, and program development to prevent child abuse and neglect among vulnerable groups, and offering intervention for families or individuals affected by substance abuse, domestic violence, and severe mental health problems.

Dr. Barragan possesses extensive training and hands-on experience with substance use, serious mental illness, domestic violence, psychopathy, assessment and treatment, and risk management for individuals convicted of sexual and violent offenses, including those on community probation. She is recognized as an approved Batterer’s Intervention Provider for Florida’s 11th district.

Additionally, Dr. Barragan has substantial experience assisting immigrant families dealing with distinctive immigration challenges and has received specialized training for these cases. She is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Counselor in both Florida (PY 10186; MH13532) and Massachusetts (PY5000108) and is active in Interjurisdictional Practice in Psychology (PSYPACT, APIT #16925). Her private practice offers telehealth services.

Her professional journey includes starting work with individuals convicted of sexual crimes during her first practicum placement in 2013, becoming employed with that treatment program in 2015. Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Counselor in Florida, Dr. Barragan has dedicated her work to evaluating and treating children and youth with sexually inappropriate behaviors and aiding families impacted by sexual abuse and domestic violence
